RIIVEH201E – Operate light vehicle
INDUSTRIES:
This course teaches you how to drive a light vehicle safely at work. It is for people working in mining, gas, or construction. A light vehicle is a car, ute, or 4×2 that weighs less than 4.5 tonnes.
The course focuses on defensive driving, which means learning how to avoid accidents and stay safe. This includes handling traffic, road conditions, and unexpected situations.

- Look after and check your vehicle
- Drive safely using defensive driving skills
- Avoid hazards like wildlife, poor road conditions, or other road users
As a result, you will learn how to prevent accidents and drive responsibly in your work environment.

By the end of the day, you will be able to:
- Plan and prepare before you drive
- Drive a light vehicle safely
- Check and care for your vehicle after use

WHO SHOULD DO THIS COURSE?
This course is for anyone who drives a light vehicle as part of their job.
COURSE DETAILS
- Duration: 1 day
- Start Time: 7:30 am sharp
- Finish Time: Around 4:30 pm
- Location: Motor School – 137 Sandgate Road, Albion QLD 4010, or at your site anywhere in Australia by request.
PREREQUISTES
To take part in this course, you must:
- Have a current driver’s licence for the type of vehicle you will drive
- Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – you can create one at usi.gov.au
WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
Please wear:
- Long pants
- A long-sleeved shirt
- Enclosed shoes with good grip
Please bring:
- Your driver’s licence
- Your USI
- Eye protection (safety glasses)
- Gloves for lifting or handling gear
- Laptop/Smart Phone

ENROLMENT
You will be assessed by:
- Online theory completed prior to or on the day of training.
- A practical driving task
This is a competency-based course, which means you pass once you show you have the required skills and knowledge.
ASSESSMENT:
You will be assessed by:This course includes two components:
- Theory Assessment – completed online before training day
You will answer a short set of questions through our digital learning system. This can be done on a phone, tablet, or computer. - Practical Assessment – completed face-to-face on training day
You will demonstrate your skills in a real-world scenario under supervision.
