INDUSTRIES:

This unit of competency supports the Resource and Infrastructure industries and sees widespread use across government, mining, gas, and construction sectors.

COURSE AIM:


This course delivers essential skills and knowledge to prepare and operate four-wheel drive vehicles and related equipment across various terrains. It targets operators who must conduct daily vehicle checks, secure proper loading, and engage 4WD modes.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course the learner will be able to:

  • Identify four-wheel drive specific terms, terminology, and techniques
  • Plan for minimal environmental impact
  • Perform pre-departure checks
  • Use four-wheel drive mode 
  • Coordinate and recover a vehicle
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs on four-wheel drive vehicles

COURSE INFORMATION:

This course is generally for persons operating four wheel drive vehicles in the government, construction, mining, gas, or resources sector.  Generally, the work will involve working in remote or desolate areas.  They will generally be working within company guidelines, policies, and procedures. 

PLEASE NOTE: This course covers Generic Industry practice.  Companies may have their own variation of the generic requirements.

  • Pre-requisites: A current drivers licence for the relevant class of vehicle.
  • Duration:  1 day course
  • Start Time:  7.30AM
  • Finish Time: We expect the course to conclude at 4:30 pm, though it may extend depending on participant numbers and their pace in demonstrating competency.
  • Location:  Motor School, 137 Sandgate Road Albion QLD 4010 or a suitable training location as nominated by Motor School
  • Dress Code:  We recommend students wear clothing and PPE in accordance with their particular job requirement (long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, and wide-brimmed hat).

What you need to bring:

  • Current drivers licence
  • USI (Unique Student Identifier – www.usi.gov.au)
  • Clean enclosed shoes with a good tread
  • Sunscreen
  • Eye protection

INCLUSIONS:

Our Brisbane course includes lunch and the use of late-model 4WD vehicles. Participants outside Brisbane may supply their own suitable vehicles.

Outside of Brisbane vehicles are able to be supplied on request and/or availability.

ASSESSMENT:

This unit of competency is assessed through the completion of written theory assessment/s and practical assessment/s.

STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT:

A Statement of Attainment for RIIVEH305F – Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle will be issued upon successful completion of all assessments.
