Heavy Vehicle Pilot Training — WA, VIC & NT

INDUSTRIES
These units of competency relate to the Transport Industry, and specifically to the pilot and escort activities in the movement of oversized and /or overmassed loads.
COURSE AIM
The aim of this course is to ensure that participants, at the end of their training, have a full understanding of what is required to operate as an authorised pilot when moving Oversized and/or Overmassed (OSOM) loads.
The course addresses the requirements for carrying out work in accordance with National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) regulations for piloting and escorting oversized and overmassed loads and relevant state/territory roads and traffic authority licence along with permit requirements. It covers preparation for pilot/escort operations, carrying out communications, and fulfilling all functions related to piloting and escorting vehicles carrying oversized and overmassed loads.
UNITS COVERED
This course consists of two separate components, each invoiced and delivered individually.
Accredited Training – 5 Units of Competency
- TLIC3010 – Pilot or escort oversized and/or overmassed loads
- TLIF3013 – Coordinate breakdowns and emergencies
- TLIE3009 – Use pilot and escort communications
- TLIF3060 – Control Traffic as a pilot vehicle operator
- TLIB0002 – Carry out vehicle inspection
Upon successful completion of the accredited units, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Non-accredited Training (Optional)
- Western Australia Bridge Supervision (Required for WA Licence)
The Western Australia Bridge Supervision program is delivered as a separate component on a dedicated day following completion of the accredited training. Participants will receive a separate invoice and certificate of completion for this component.
Multi-state Licencing Pathway
The 5 accredited units delivered in this course are recognised toward pilot licencing requirements in multiple states and territories. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment which can be used toward the following pathways:
Western Australia Main roads Requirements:
To obtain your heavy vehicle pilots licence you need to:
- Hold a current non-probationary C class drivers licence
- Complete a ‘fitness to drive for commercial drivers form‘ which must have a 12 month validity period at the time of application
- Pass a WA heavy vehicle pilot training course (5 UOC and Bridge Supervision)
- Complete and submit an application form
Victoria — Level 2 Certified Pilot Vehicle Driver (CPVD)
The Statement of Attainment issued upon successful completion of this course satisfies the unit of competency requirements for the Victorian Level 2 CPVD. Northern Territory — Oversize Load Pilot Operator Accreditation
The Statement of Attainment issued upon successful completion of this course can be used to support an application for NT Oversize Load Pilot Operator accreditation. Please note that licencing and accreditation requirements are managed by each state and territory authority. Motor School delivers the training and issues the Statement of Attainment — students are responsible for lodging their own licence or accreditation applications with the relevant authority. Pricing
- Accredited Training (5 Units of Competency) — $1,450 per person (GST Free)
- Western Australia Bridge Supervision (Non-Accredited) — $200 per person plus GST
Each component is separately invoiced. You will receive two invoices upon enrollment.
Course duration
Accredited Training — 3 Days
Western Australia Bridge Supervision — 1 Additional Day (separately scheduled)

- Current drivers licence
- USI number (Student Unique Identifier – www.usi.gov.au)
- Clean enclosed shoes
- Long sleeve shirt and pants
- Eye protection
